Split System Air Conditioning Installation in Grafton
The most common and most cost-effective way to cool a room or living area properly.

A single split system is the right answer for more Grafton homes than the industry likes to admit. It is the cheapest to buy, the cheapest to run, the simplest to service and, in a house where you genuinely spend your time in one or two rooms, it will make you more comfortable per dollar than anything else. Two of our Google reviews are for exactly this job, and both of them mention how clean the site was left.

Getting the capacity right
The temptation is always to buy a bit bigger for safety. In a humid climate that is the wrong instinct.
An oversized split cools the air to setpoint quickly and shuts down before it has run long enough to condense any real moisture out of the room. The thermostat is satisfied, the air is cold and the room still feels sticky — and the compressor short-cycles on and off, which is the fastest way to wear one out. A correctly sized unit runs longer and gentler, dehumidifies properly, is quieter and costs less to run.
We work the capacity out on site from room volume, glazing area and orientation, ceiling height, insulation and how the room is used. A west-facing lounge with big windows needs substantially more than a south-facing bedroom of the same floor area, and no online calculator knows that about your house.
Where the units go
Placement decides how well the system works and how long it lasts.
Indoor head unit. high on a wall with a clear path to throw air across the room, not tucked behind a door or blowing straight into a wardrobe. Not directly above where you sit, and not somewhere the condensate cannot drain properly.
Outdoor condenser. good airflow all round, out of direct western sun where possible, off the ground on brackets or a stand, away from bedroom windows, and somewhere a person can actually reach it to service it in five years. On the coast — Yamba, Iluka, Maclean — also sheltered from direct onshore salt spray, on stainless brackets.
The shortest pipe run between the two is generally the best run. Long runs cost more, lose a little efficiency and give more opportunity for problems.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a split system installation take?
A straightforward back-to-back install is usually half a day. Longer pipe runs, two-storey access or a new electrical circuit can take it to a full day.
Can I buy the unit myself and have you install it?
Yes, but talk to us before you buy. We would much rather spend ten minutes checking the capacity and type are right than turn up to install something that was never going to suit the room.
What size split system do I need?
It depends on room volume, glazing, orientation, ceiling height and insulation — not floor area alone. We measure it on site. Bigger is not better; oversized units fail to dehumidify.
Do I need a new circuit for a split system?
Usually yes — a dedicated, correctly protected circuit. We check your switchboard has the capacity before quoting so there are no surprises.
How often should it be serviced?
Annually. It keeps efficiency up, keeps mould out of the indoor unit and is usually a condition of the manufacturer's warranty.
Byron Ryder and his team at Ryder Air and Electrical are straight up brilliant. I have had two jobs done by Byron, and both were carried out perfectly. Our farm is 35km out of Grafton and Byron didn't have any problem both times in sorting it out for us.
A wonderful job installing my air conditioner. Left the site spotless and clean, would highly recommend. A very friendly manner and easy to talk to while also being professional.
Provided me an onsite quote and was able to do the work in a timely manner. Cleaned up the work site and did a very clean install on a split system for me. I will be using and recommending in the future.
